The official documents of the dialogue between the Roman Catholic Church and the World Evangelical Alliance since 1977 are available now

(Bonn, 24.01.2025) The four major documents agreed upon between the Vatican and the Evangelicals between 1977 and 2016 have been edited and published into one handy volume in an English and a Ger­man version.

These are the four official documents:

  • The Evangelical-Roman Catholic Dialogue on Mission (1977–1984)
  • Church, Evangelisation, and the Bonds of Koinonia (1993–2002)
  • Christian Witness in a Multi Religious World (2006–2011)
  • ‘Scripture and Tradition’ and ‘the Church in Salvation’ – Catholics and Evangelicals Explore Challenges and Opportunities (2009–2016)

Bishop Prof. Dr. Thomas Paul Schirr­macher was drawn into these dialogues when he was asked by Professor Peter Beyerhaus to translate into German the dialogue initiated by John Stott in 1977–1984. He has written several books on Catholic theology and has been in constant dialogue with the last two popes and several Vatican dicasteries. From 2006–2011, he led the WEA delegation that worked on the development of the document “Christian Witness in a Multi-Religious World”.
